Roth/Kenitra, June 23, 2026 – Today the international cable specialist LEONI Cable Solutions (LCS), together with distinguished representatives from government, business, and industry, marked the official groundbreaking of a new production facility in the Kenitra Free Trade Zone in Morocco.
With this new plant, LEONI LCS reaffirms its long-term commitment to Morocco and continues to expand its global manufacturing footprint for the automotive industry. The total investment in the project amounts to approximately EUR 60 million.
The ceremonial event was attended by representatives of the Moroccan government, regional authorities, officials from the free trade zone, as well as numerous partners, service providers, and stakeholders who have actively supported the project since its inception.
The future plant will manufacture single-core and multi-core automotive cables, including data transmission cables used in applications such as advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and next-generation autonomous driving technologies. As such, the facility will play a key role in advancing intelligent and safe mobility solutions.
“This project represents far more than the construction of a new building – it is a clear commitment to innovation, partnership, and sustainable growth,” said Markus Thoma, CEO of LEONI Cable Solutions, during the ceremony. “Morocco has become a key hub for the automotive supply industry. We are proud to continue this journey together with our Moroccan partners.”
Production is scheduled to commence in mid-2027. Initially, the site will employ around 90 people, with plans to expand the workforce to approximately 200 employees at full capacity.
With this new facility, LEONI LCS further strengthens its international operations and underscores the close economic ties between Germany and Morocco. The company particularly highlights the professional and trust-based collaboration with national and regional authorities, the management of the Kenitra Free Trade Zone, and all local partners.
“The support we have received on-site throughout the various project phases has been highly professional and solution-oriented,” added Markus Thoma. “This collaborative partnership has been a key success factor in reaching today’s milestone.”
The new facility will be built in accordance with modern industrial and sustainability standards and is expected to contribute significantly to regional value creation while supporting Morocco’s growing automotive ecosystem.
